‘You can leave your cap on’ glass recycling campaign in the re3 area

re3 – the waste management partnership for Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Borough Councils – has launched a campaign to encourage local residents to recycle the aluminium screw tops off glass bottles such as wine, spirits and cooking oils and vinegars, along with the glass bottles on which they came.

The campaign, project managed by the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro) has been designed to increase the recycling of aluminium bottle tops and collars by encouraging people to screw the tops back onto the rinsed empty glass bottles before placing them at one of the many recycling bottle banks located at sites throughout the re3 area.

Over the next few months, the “You Can Leave Your Cap On” campaign will be publicised through social media. New eye-catching stickers can now be seen on all bottle bank sites in the re3 area explaining why simply screwing the lid back on your glass bottles can help us recycle more, and benefit the environment.

The campaign highlights the importance of recycling the aluminium closures as, like all aluminium and glass packaging they are endlessly recyclable; so every screw top and bottle deposited in a bottle bank can be transformed into something new; including more bottles, drink cans, mobile phones and even cars.
