Using Expansion Foam in a Plastic Boat

After purchasing a Pelican Scorpio boat, I found out that it needed some extra buoyancy. The boat does have some substantial styrofoam inside, but under heavy weight it flexes too much. We decided to fill it with foam, and it was a great success. There is a reason why Boston Whalers are the best of the best, and considered unsinkable……they are full of foam. Even though foam is slightly less buoyant than air, it is extremely rigid in comparison. We merely copied the idea of what Boston Whaler does…..on the cheap. 12 cans of foam @ $4 a can, plus $5 in hole caps and a tube of silicone. Cheap fix.
