How to Refill a Bliss Kiss Nail Oil Pen (new style)

INSTRUCTIONS (because I don’t like the sound of my recorded voice):
*Disclaimer – I removed the twist cap BEFORE video taping – you don’t want to see me struggle with it.

In this video I will show you how to refill your Bliss Kiss nail oil pen (new style). I usually fill a couple pens a month, so I can *almost* do this in my sleep, but I have seen some people have issues with getting theirs filled in a mess-free manner, so this video is a visual for the following instructions I have based on my own personal experience. I am not being compensated for this video; I did it only because a video tutorial is sometimes better than written instructions and/or pictorials.

1) Remove twist end cap from pen. This takes a bit of strength as the cap is attached to the pen pretty securely. Ana usually sends 2 grippy pads with the refill kit (1 pen and a squeeze bottle both filled with nail oil), so you can use those to help. If you don’t have any of those, the grippy pads are the same material as the grippy shelf liner or rug liner you can put between a hardwood floor and a rug. Luckily (but unfortunately) for me, my puppy likes to rip up the liner under my living room rug, so I just kept a few pieces to use when I am struggling with the cap. If you still can’t get it, ask hubby to do it! Men like when they get to prove how macho they are ;)

2) Yay, you have the cap off – I swear that’s the hardest part of this whole thing. Next, turn your pen brush end up and pull the plunger out of the pen almost all the way. This prevents it from forcing the little bit of oil that is left in your pen out through the brush. When you get it almost all the way out, turn your pen on its side or brush end down, just to prevent the oil from spilling out, and pull the plunger out all the way.

3) Set your pen aside, standing on the brush end with the cap on. Twist the plunger back into the start position. This does take quite a bit of twisting, and a few turns to make sure you are twisting in the correct direction. Once you have your plunger all the way back into the start position, set it aside (I usually have a paper towel down on the counter when I am doing this).

4) Open your oil refill bottle. I have the large 4oz bottle that I keep in the fridge when I am not refilling my pens. You do have to take it out a little bit before you fill your pens because it does solidify in the cool temperature. Don’t freak out like me when you see that. I emailed Ana all in a panic thinking I did something wrong when I first saw mine do that, but it’s perfectly normal. With the 4oz bottle you can pour from the spout, but I find because the oil molecules are so little, it does leak through the threads of the cap after a while, so I purchased some disposable pipettes from Etsy (link below) and it makes refilling pens a breeze. If you have the little dropper bottle from Ana, simply take the lid off and put the end in the end of the pen and squeeze the bottle to fill the pen.

5) When the oil gets to just below the little nubs inside the pen, stop filling. The plunger is held in place with the little nubs, so if you go past that, you are going to make an awful mess! I didn’t fill it quite full enough in the video, but you get the idea. Sorry if it’s a little blurry, but if you look at your pen, you will be able to see what I am talking about.

6) Set your bottle of oil/pipette aside and pick up your plunger. Now, this is VERY IMPORTANT to a mess-free filling process. Everyone I talk to has an issue with oil coming through the brush when they are refilling, but you don’t need to have that problem :) Hold your pen brush end down and set your plunger into the pen carefully, and hold it in place. You don’t want to push it all the way in yet, just hold it so the oil won’t spill out. Turn your pen brush side up and remove the cap over the brush. Tap the side of the pen a little bit to make sure all the air bubbles are at the top (brush end) and push the plunger into place. You should get mostly air out through the brush. There may be a little oil too, but that will just be what was in the brush from your last use. If you DO get oil out through the brush that means you filled it too full. Don’t worry though, just wipe it up with your fingers and rub it into your hands :)

7) Put the twist cap back on the pen, and voila! You’re pretty much done. If there is an air bubble in the pen like I have in the video, simply hold the pen brush end up and twist until it pushes all the way through the brush.
