How to clean an observatory class large telescope and mirror



Cleaning the Royal Court of Oman’s RCOS 24″ telescope and how to do it properly.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BUY:

2 x 500ml NEW spray bottles, cleaned and rinsed with boiled distilled water.

3 Lt of Distilled Water.

Paper Towels: Use non-bleached and non-chemical added paper towels.

Camel Brush: Use proper camel hair brush, not acyrilic

Static plastic “Computer cleaning brush”

Compressed can of air or large “dust puffer”

NON-OPTIC PARTS: Use pure cotton thick towels and spray with “Mr Sheen” or “Mr. Muscle” spray wax ON THE CLOTHS, not on the telescope parts.

Clean observatory area FIRST with WET mop, before cleaning optics. DO NOT USE DUSTERS OR DRY MOPS.

WASH RECIPE:
=============
1) 4 x finely ground tablespoons of “Lux Pure Soap Flakes”, mixed in a paste with boiled distilled water. (If you can’t obtain soap flakes, use 10 drops of “Johnson’s Baby Shampoo” instead).

2) 30 ml of “Windex” or “Mr. Muscle” glass cleaner

3) 10 ml of IsoPropol Alchol

4) Fill rest of sprayer with PURE distilled water. Shake for 15 mins and leave to settle for 1 hour.

RINSE RECIPE:
============
1) 30 ml of IsoPropol Alchol
2) Fill rest of sprayer with PURE distilled water.

Shake both bottles well before use and ensure you label them.
