Review: Coravin Model One Wine System
The Coravin Model One Wine System is the best product I’ve reviewed in a long time. The wine access system enables people to pour a glass of wine without uncorking the bottle. It uses a patented Coravin Needle that makes a tiny hole in the cork that the cork naturally seals up after using and keeps the wine air-tight, as it’s oxidation that will ruin the wine. This was so easy to use, the needle is extremely sturdy. We then just tilted the bottle up at a 45 degree angle, pushed the trigger and it began pouring.
The Coravin Model One system uses Argon gas capusules to pressurize and release the wine. We could pour one glass, three glasses, or however much we wanted and then put that bottle back on the shelf where it would preserve the rest of the bottle to enjoy next week, next month or anytime we want.
The Coravin Model One System was great for multiple bottle occasions too. When having friends over for wine sampling or even just a dinner party everyone can enjoy the exact wine they want, and not have to just go along with whatever others are having. I love Malbec but some of my friends do not, with the Coravin System we were able to each enjoy our own glasses. This especially worked well for my mom who likes white Zinfandel and Riesling, two varieties that aren’t always popular with the rest of our family. She can have her single glass and not try to convince the rest of us to share that instead of the Pinot and Cabernet bottles that others really want to enjoy.
When I drink a dessert wine like a Port, I usually only drink one glass. Before buying my Coravin that wine would spoil and taste dramatically different within just a few days. Did I necessarily want to drink port again a night or two later? Usually not. That’s the best thing about the Coravin system, it gives you the power and flexibility to decide what, when and how much wine you want to drink.
Here are a few FAQs that we ourselves had and found answers to:
Does the remaining wine in the bottle spoil or taste bad?
No, it passed our taste test and poking around on their site and the web we found that renowned wine lovers and wine aficionados were blown away by how it preserved the taste perfectly, due to the prevention of oxidation.
Is the Coravin needle strong? Will it break?
The inventor of the Coravin Systems came from medical device where he had invented special, sturdy needles for surgery. They are extremely strong and durable. If one should break, there are replacements that can be purchased on the Coravin Website.
How many glasses of wine does each Coravin Capsule pour?
Each Coravin Capsule will allow you to pour up to fifteen 5 ounce glasses of wine.
How many capsules come with the Model One Wine System?
Two capsules came with the system.
Is this the only product from Coravin?
No, there is a Coravin Model Two Wine Sytem, a Model Two Elite, and others (here’s a link: https://www.coravin.com/coravin-systems-new).
Can you reuse the needle for multiple bottles?
Yes, we used it for a number of different bottles of red, and white all at the same party.
Do you have to be strong to use the Coravin Wine System?
No. The design and pattented needle make it easy, much easier than using a corkscrew! No more pieces of cork floating around in the bottle, or cutting my finger on those darn metal coatings!
Where can one buy the Coravin Model One Wine System?
It is available for purchase at Bed Bath & Beyond, Bloomingdales, Sur La Table, Neiman Marcus, Amazon, Total Wine, and more.
Who should have a Coravin Model One Wine System:
I think this would make a great Christmas gift, birthday present, or even just a way to reward yourself. I have had to pour spoiled wine down the drain, I’m sure we all have. This bottle puts an end to that and therefore covers its cost pretty quickly. Even better than that though is that it really just changes the way we drink wine. That’s not just at parties and tastings either. I had a few bottles that was expensive (at least by my standards, haha) and was saving it for a special occasion. With my Coravin system I was able to drink a bit here and there, much like a fine scotch. Freedom is a great thing!!
